There’s a beautiful song, called “Remember” by Omkara, that I was introduced to by my kundalini yoga teacher during one of our classes. The song resonates with my soul and calls me back to remember the truth of who I am inside. It’s a truth I feel we all share as humans residing on this planet, and it’s one that many others have spoken about: We are all spiritual beings having a human experience.
I’d like to share a bit here about what this statement means to me. I would also like to add that these are my beliefs, and you may not resonate with what I’m saying here. That’s o.k. for we all come to our own truth, in our own time.
When we incarnate on this planet and in this 3D existence, we experience amnesia -in a sense- forgetting our true divine essence and all this divinity entails. This “amnesia” includes forgetting the depth of our interconnectedness with all living beings…the catastrophic results of which can be seen all over the globe. This “amnesia” includes forgetting that not only did we choose to come here, but we also chose specific life experiences to help our soul learn certain lessons and evolve in consciousness. This “amnesia” includes forgetting our power as creators, with the ability to greatly shape our lives and in turn impact the lives of those around us. For many, we’ve been taught to downplay our power (the source of which is love) and to hide our light. We’ve been programmed to believe we are victims at the mercy of some God “up there” and only reachable through another, “more holy” than us. This is all illusion, or to put it another way… a dream that we need to wake up from.
What I’ve come to understand – and at times struggle with- is that to experience this life and all its wonder, I need to balance the “spiritual me” with the “human me.” At times, the “spiritual me” wants to escape the chaos and craziness that is playing out in this “earthly school.” I know there is a place…some other dimension where I’ve experienced bliss, love, unity, peace without all the darkness and density on this planet. I can feel it deep within my soul and the longing for this “place” can be quite strong at times. However, when I fully embrace the “human me” I come to appreciate the depth of opportunities that can only be experienced through the polarity and richness of this physical reality.
I can experience and appreciate beauty, love, joy, passion, connection, intimacy, humor, wonder, wisdom, cooperation, inspiration etc. and strive to embody these “high vibe” states fully, only through also experiencing their polarity…sorrow, anger, jealousy, pain, loneliness, isolation, worry, fear etc. It’s through these earthly experiences, while residing in a uniquely individual body, that my soul gains greater wisdom. This wisdom will be carried from lifetime to lifetime, ultimately returning to the experience of “oneness” with God/Source/Creator.
In my belief, the opportunity for our greatest “up-leveling” in consciousness comes when one fully “awakens” from the “dream” of this reality – while alive in this reality – and accepts their role as “co-creator” with Source. From this empowered place, aligning to our own hearts, we can better see and experience the wondrous gifts and opportunities that this earthly life offers, while co-creating and collaborating with others in a more conscious way.
This “waking up”, seeing through illusion and embracing our role as “spiritual being in a human body” can be quite a challenge and at times may feel like an impossible one. I believe, however, that we are here at this precise time in our human evolution because we courageously accepted that challenge.
Getting back to the song I mentioned, the lyrics are a reminder to us…
“This life is a dream. It’ll be over in the blink of an eye. Remember who you are….
This life is beautiful. This life is horrible This life is wonderful. And this life is just a dream.
A dream made of love. Remember who you are. Remember what you are.
Remember who you are before. Before these questions, before the answer.
Remember who you are before. Before everything.”
Remember who you are – a soul housed in a physical body – while you are still in this earthy body. Remember who you are…a spark of divine love – meant to shine your light, not hide your light – meant to own your power, not shy away from it. Remember who you are and embrace your true essence and commit to seeing that same essence in others. Remember now…for this world desperately needs you!
