I’m sure many of you are struggling right now. Struggling to keep the faith, after the most recent, incomprehensible tragedy in Las Vegas. This coming on the heels of one natural disaster after another, can make you wonder: Is there any hope? Can prayer make a difference? Can I make a difference? Is the world going to end in disaster, no matter what changes we make as a collective?
The only answer, I can provide is the one that makes sense to me. This is my personal answer, so if you don’t agree, that’s completely o.k. It won’t bother me one iota, or change my beliefs.
I truly believe that there is ALWAYS a choice to shift from the current state of reality we see on this Earth. I believe that more and more people are “waking up” to the fact that we are powerful creators. We can choose to create from a place of love or we can choose to create from fear. We can choose to REACT from a place of love, or we can choose to REACT from a place of fear. I believe that we reap what we sow. If enough of us choose to create, to the best of our ability -in every moment- from a place of love, we sow miracles. I have seen in my own personal life, miracles occur, when two or more gather with a focused intention of love. I believe in the famous quote by Gandhi:
“The day the power of love overrules the love of power, the world will know peace.”
I believe that there is a Higher Power (whom I choose to call God) who has never, and will never abandon us. I choose to believe that goodness, kindness, and love prevails, despite what we may see and hear otherwise on the nightly news. And speaking of that, I have also chosen to unplug from the news and most t.v. in general. This choice, some might say, is one of “burying my head in the sand.” To me it feels more like, focusing on the things that I DO have control over. I DO have control over what I choose to feed my brain and spirit. The nightly news and most t.v. isn’t anything I wish to ingest. Ultimately I believe that the choice to make a difference has to start with the individual…with our individual thoughts, words and actions on a daily basis, in our own little corner of the world.
As is often the case, I choose to process my thoughts and feelings through my writing. Here is a poem that was initiated after last week’s events…
Dear God…What the Hell?
Troubled mind, heavy heart as I struggle to pray;
Dear God, what the hell can I possibly say?
Was I given a choice to inhabit this place?
Did I sign on the line that was marked human race?
Too much heartbreak, confusion, delusion and pain;
All our tears and our sorrow, a deluge of rain.
Where’s the heaven you promised? And why must we wait?
Can’t you take off that lock from your pearly-white gate?
Is this truly illusion? You say we are ONE.
Well then, please clue us in. ‘Cuz quite frankly…we’re done.
Keep the focus on love. Shift away from the fear;
Is the wisdom you whisper again in my ear.
Be the change you are seeking. You tell me again;
“Blah, blah, blah…what’s the point? Will this suffering end?”
I have promised ‘free will.’ Yes, you CHOSE to be here;
To embody My LOVE in a world filled with fear.
When you seek, you shall find Me, inside of your heart;
I have not ‘locked you out’, we are NEVER apart.
In the end, will it matter? Is destruction our fate?
Can we wake from our slumber before it’s too late?
Shine your light. Be the love. Be that powerful force.
Join your hands. Lift your hearts. Keep the faith. Stay the course.
Use the gifts you’ve been given, don’t lock them inside;
Keep your heart fully open, let love be your guide.
I am trying, believe me. I know there’s a choice;
I can choose to be silent, or strengthen my voice.
Dear God, hear these words. Hear this prayer pouring forth;
Give us strength. Give us hope. Help us know our true worth.
Help us see that our ways steeped in love, joined as ONE;
Can emit greater force than the rays of the sun.
Help us lessen our struggles, our conflicts and strife;
Help us see with Your eyes, always grateful for life.
Help us lead by example and act from the heart;
In our own little world, that’s the place we must start.
